David Carlson leads the US Manufacturing and Automotive Industry Practice for Marsh and is based in Cleveland. He is responsible for building and growing the practice and ensuring consistent delivery of Marsh’s industry-leading products and solutions to address the seismic shifts that innovation and the mobility ecosystem are bringing to Marsh’s manufacturing and automotive clients on a global basis.
David joined Marsh in 2003 as a Risk Consultant focused on the Manufacturing & Automotive sector. He previously spent five years as the Group Manager of environmental, health and safety for an international manufacturer of specialty fasteners. Through his career he has gained experience developing and implementing environmental, health and safety and risk management programs for reducing the “total cost of risk” for various manufacturing operations domestically and internationally. This includes coordinating regulatory compliance activities for ten manufacturing facilities across the globe with regard to OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001, and other applicable governing agencies.
In May 2018, David testified before the US House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance about autonomous vehicles and their impact on the insurance industry.
David holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Bowling Green State University. Additionally, he holds affiliations with the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI), Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA), Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI).
